First Impressions
The easiest way to spot Ryoji is to watch out for his enormous, bright yellow scarf. It's about ten feet long; he wears it loosely wrapped once around his neck, with a short piece down the front and the majority of it draping over his shoulder. It's a single length of yellow cotton, with narrow black borders on its outer edges and two rows of stitches down the middle. He is almost never seen without it.
He can usually be found wearing Gekkoukan High's winter uniform, minus the jacket. The jacket will forever be kept in his room, unless it's ridiculously cold. His uniform is kept fairly tidy, although his ribbon is sometimes a little lopsided. (Not that you can see it, underneath his scarf.) He also wears a pair of pretty fancy suspenders.
Ryoji is on the taller side at 5'7" and gangly, with long arms, legs, and fingers. He's pale, as if he doesn't go out that much; he's more prone to getting sunburnt than tan. He combs his chin-length hair back every morning, although some of it always seems to be flying away and escaping; if he doesn't comb it back, the longer pieces tend to fall over his eyes. Up close, his eyes are his most defining feature: they're a very bright, vivid shade of blue, with a ring of darker blue around his narrow pupils.
Speaking Patterns/Body Language
Ryoji is voiced in English by Yuri Lowenthall. He has a fairly low, soft voice; he is often described as speaking "kindly" or "gently". He doesn't stutter, although he occasionally lets his sentences trail off. His voice is very honest and earnest; if he's happy or sad, it shines clearly in the way he speaks. Along those same lines, he has a very expressive face. He's a very earnest and sincere person, so it's easy to tell when he's lying or telling the truth as it's written all over his face.
Ryoji honorifics with everyone. Generally, he defaults to -san; he'll use the first names of teeangers and other young folk and the surnames for adults. He uses first names and -senpai for uperclassmen. With close friends, he'll switch to -kun and -chan. If asked to, he doesn't mind dropping honorifics. He also doesn't care one way or another what honorifics, if any, people use with him.
Standing naturally, Ryoji often rests a hand over his chest or on his hip. He has very bright and energetic body language, and likes to gesture with his hands when telling stories. When talking to other people, he pays very close attention to what they're saying. He looks people directly in the eye when they're talking. When he's thinking to himself, he has a habit of looking up at the ceiling. When he's feeling anxious or worried, he'll duck his chin into his scarf.
